Reaggie,
Actually, it may not be as silly as it sounds. In the worlds of audio and video, there has always been a place for high-end equipment. You can still buy a pair of speakers for over $100,000 (ask Dave Wilson) and tubed amps at twenty grand and more. A friend of mine a few years ago paid close to $20,000 for his turntable, arm, and cartridge.
Yamaha are trying to position themselves as a high-end manufacturer of videophile gear. They don't care about K-Mart shoppers. Who knows: They might even make a good product. They always have. The rest of us can do what we do with the rest of the fringe companies: ignore them.

Yeah there will always be people that just want to have the elite products but hey even the guy with the 6 million dollar home theatre uses a PS3 as his bluray player.

John,
I know that but, don't get me wrong. Yamaha has been buying Hitachi, Marantz, and JVC guts for years. It just annoys me that they like Onkyo rebrand their stuff with higher pricetags! When the Onkyo 805 came out I was expecting a 15 to 20% higher tag than that of Toshiba XA2, but it was the same price. For Yamaha to release this so called reference piece, I laugh at what they are trying to accomplish. I had at one time a Luxman DD/DTS surround sound reciever, with Component Video switching. It was three or four years ahead of what anyone was doing at that time, and I paid well over $4000 for that head unit, and realized it really wasn't worth that much. Sure it sounded great, but way overpriced...
It's all in how precieve the value I guess. I guess, my firends Klipsch K-Horn's are worth over $50,000 now, but he didn't pay close to that in a e-Bay auction. I mean my friend Jack still raves over his $20,000 Sony CRT HD projector, but my $2500 1000AX Panasonic kills it. Or at least I think it does? I think he only paid $13,500 on eBay for that as well, + the $2200 in shipping to get it here. I couldn't evaluate that kind of money, for a similar picture. Could you?

Yeah, people will always justify any price they pay for something that makes them happy. If you don't have the money, though, it makes little sense to me to overpay for something. But if you've got it, flaunt it.

lol, yes you can, its called xbox 360. especially if an external blu drive ever comes out. and if it never does then there's a good reason why not.
Stop dreaming because that whole Microsoft/Blu-ray rumor has been squashed.
But I must say that PS3 does look good with the rest of that hi-end equipment Falcon.

Someone must've taken a market survey to see if profile 2.0 would be a seller or not because it's not being use that much by studios and hi-end equipment companies is not using it either. That's why I said they should just dump the whole profile 2.0 and stick with 1.1 at least you get the bonus view.
