Ok, so I've heard before that I need a Samsung 5400rpm SATA notebook drive to replace the original Samsung because they fit nicely in the slot.

I've looked around and found a drive on newegg for $50 160GB.

Also, I've heard that Norton Ghost does the trick of copying all files from original drive(someone in these forums said to use that).

Could someone tell me if I'm on the right track and if so give directions on what to do.

Your knowledge will not be wasted as I am ready to buy the parts. Just need to know all that is involved. And I'm not an idiot. I repair computers daily but just don't know much about modding the xbox so that it will actually work.

I just upgraded to a 120gb TWO DAYS AGO. Flawless replacement from my 20gb hd. I bought it from ebay for $45 - 120gb Western Digital model no. wd1200bevs. I don't know if the samsung drive works.

Here is the link that disassembles the current 20gb hd from its shell, courtesy of PCWORLD. It also gives you instruction to PROPERLY FORMAT your bare 120gb, in xbox 360 format.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/150970/upgrade_your_xbox_360s_hard_drive_on_the_cheap.html

For a MORE DETAILED DEMO, I followed this metacafe videoclip, on opening the drive case.

NOTE: I don't know if norton ghost ACTUALLY works in providing an exact image of your old hd, to your newer xbox 360 hd. I've read many forums about members BRAGGIN' ABOUT USING NORTON GHOST, but no one ACTUALLY replying back with positive results.

Recently MS banned alot of people from Xbox Live because they had modded consoles. Just thought I'd warn you.

The term MOD means MANY THINGS in a gaming console.

Mod (short for modify) can mean modification to the external look of your machine. The could be added faceplates, stickers, skins... etc. That's not illegal.

Mod can also mean "modification" of internal circuitry of the console's motherboard. That is deemed illegal.

Neither of the above descriptions partains to "modding" the console, but simply for the sole basis of "upgrading" the size of the console's hard drive- the same way that you would 'upgrade' the hard disk size of your computer. You're not modifying anything. You're just adding space.

Besides, Microsoft itself sells the 120gb upgrade drive... without the hassle of replacing the 20gb hd from its shell. The catch: It retails for $100.

NO ONE uses the term "MOD" when they apply decals or a new faceplate. Playing a symantic game with Microsoft will only result in the famous BAN HAMMER being dropped right on your head.

Why people keep buyig that junk for a video game system I don't know, You get banned from an online service that YOU pay for because you're making mods to something that YOU own and that may not work for long.

Microsoft and XBOX 360.

Yeah the reliability of the Xbox 360 was a huge problem back in 2006 and early 2007. But Microsoft addressed that problem in late 2007 with a motherboard update that has a smaller CPU. I can assure you that an Xbox 360 manufactured in 2008 is just as reliable as Wii/PS3.

Sadly MS locks you into their proprietary stuff but other companies have done the same. Its a surprise that PS3 is as open ended as it is. Sony is usually the king in proprietary BS.

Going back to the subject, WITHOUT THE IDIOTS ABOVE, ranting with their FANBOY STUPIDITY....

Upgrading your hard drive (from 20gb to 120gb) is easier, than MIGRATING your current data (from your old 20gb hd) to your 120gb hard drive.

I've searched through forums and can't see any VALID answer, as to whether NORTON GHOST will succeed in transferring the data. You'll have research that further, Wolvi.

As to the MORONS ABOVE... who can't even do a simple google search nor ebay search on the matter: The term "mod" is WIDELY APPLIED to more than just HACKING a gaming console.

Well you couldn't be anymore wrong with this statement. NOTHING IS BANNED, just your absurd opinion.
PERFECT EXAMPLE: Ebay ALLOWS the term in their commerce- And it's COMPLETELY LEGAL (led lights, decals, skins, faceplates... etc).

Better yet wolvi: Go to a gaming forum for your answers, instead. ANYTHING THAT THESE MORONS DON'T UNDERSTAND... YOU GET CRITICIZED & SUBJECTED TO PS3 FANBOYISM.

rangoonth, I agree with on that. That's why they had the slogan, "SONY, the one and only." Yea, the only one that has the memory for your SONY laptop.
