Universal Home Entertainment will release an extended edition of 1995's WATERWORLD on DVD this November 4th. The film stars Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Both extended (177 minutes) and theatrical (136 minutes) versions will be included.

The only extra right now is the film's theatrical trailer. We will update you if this ever changes.

Synopsis:
See one of the screen´s biggest action-adventure epics like never before in Waterworld Extended Edition! One of the most talked about movies in film history is now available in two versions: an extended cut with over 40 minutes of additional footage and the original theatrical cut – both digitally remastered for optimum picture quality.

Set in the future when Earth is completely covered in water and the human race is struggling to survive, mankind´s one remaining hope for a better future is a drifter (Kevin Costner) who gets caught up in a battle between the evil Deacon (Dennis Hopper) and a child´s secret key to a wondrous place called "Dryland." Featuring ground-breaking special effects, Waterworld Extended Edition is a visually stunning futuristic thriller beyond your wildest imagination.

I know this is a very disliked movie, but it's entertaining, it's popcorn entertainment...like said before, I hope the two-disc version features both the theatrical and extended cut in one disc via seamless branching, and extras on the other disc, and not one cut per disc...or at least something like the complete dossier for Apocalypse Now...

Personally, I like the movie. But they are making it longer.....???

The movie was cut by the studio so that it could be shorter...and what do studios care about presenting a complete work? They don't!!

I don't know why this movie got so trashed. I enjoy it every time I watch it. Have the HD DVD. Seeing extra 40+ minutes will be cool. It was never suppose to be some kind of documentary, just a fun romp of action on the seas.

I also really like this movie. Got the HD DVD version in a sale and it was a cool revisit in HD. Which brings me to. Why Universal? You re-release the movie and doesn't bring it out on Blu-ray?

What's wrong with the HD DVD version? I still have it only on DVD. At least you have it in HD. Realistically Universal is probably taking their time doing Blu-Ray on some of the not so great selling catalog titles. Remember they already did a full catalog run in HD DVD. Give them some time man...

I have the HDDVD which I thoroughly enjoyed. If the BD has significant added content, I'll buy it. I'd also buy The Postman if it came out on BD.

Maybe after this they will make an extended version of my all time favorite Battlefield Earth.
