Season Six has some entertaining shows, but a lot of dumb ones too.
12) "Samantha's Double Mother Trouble." Esmeralda conjures up Mother Goose by accident, and wouldn't you know it that Darrin's parents show up at just that moment.
13) "You're So Agreeable." Endora's latest spell has Darrin agreeing to everything, which makes him look like such a spineless yes-man that he's fired from McMann and Tate.
14) "Santa Comes to Visit and Stays." Yep, Esmeralda accidentally conjures up Santa, and on the night before Christmas Eve. Talk about Eves-dropping.
15) "Samantha's Better Halves." Flashback show has us seeing the time that Endora made two Darrins so he could tend to his pregnant wife AND make a business meeting in Japan. One of the weakest, dumbest episodes in the pack.
16) "Samantha's Lost Weekend." Sam goes on an eating binge when she unknowingly drinks a glass of milk that Esmeralda had "hexed" to stimulate Tabitha's appetite.
17) "The Phrase is Familiar." This time the spell by Endora has Darrin speaking nothing but clichés. It's actually one of the more cleverly written shows.
18) "Samantha's Secret is Discovered." The writers were on a brief roll, as this one was also very good. After all these years, Samantha finally tells her mother-in-law she's a witch, but the confession doesn't have the effect Sam had hoped.
19) "Tabitha's Very Own Samantha." With a blink of her eye, Tabitha decides to end her "grounding" and conjures up a version of Samantha so she can take her to the park.
20) "Super Arthur." Dr. Bombay (Bernard Fox) tries to help Uncle Arthur (Lynde) when he throws his magic out of whack and does the Superman thing. Stupid show.
21) "What Makes Darrin Run." Another re-tread episode has Endora trying to inspire Darrin but instead creating a power-hungry monster.
22) "Serena Stops the Show." Okay, in a season where the writers were all over the place, why not resort to Samantha's mischievous double? Boyce and Hart guest star in this one.
23) "Just a Kid Again." When a store clerk wishes he were a kid again, Tabitha obliges, and it complicates everyone's lives.
24) "The Generation Zap." A client's college aged daughter gets the hots for Darrin, and of course that means Endora or Serena (or both) were behind it.
25) "Okay, Who's the Wise Witch?" A witchcraft vapor lock, of all things, trap everyone (even Dr. Bombay) inside the Stephens' home, and all because Sam hasn't been using her powers enough. Incredibly dumb episode.
26) "A Chance on Love." Serena subs for Samantha selling raffle tickets and ends up flirting with one of Darrin's clients.
27) "If the Shoe Pinches." This time Endora conjures up a mean leprechaun to torment Darrin and jeopardize his career. Another insipid episode.
28) "Mona Sammy." Magic makes Darrin look like a regular Da Vinci, and he starts to believe it himself.
29) "Turn on the Old Charm." Sam gives Darrin a magic amulet that makes Endora loving every time she's around it . . . and Darrin.
30) "Make Love, Not Hate." A dinner party goes awry when Esmeralda accidentally puts a love potion in the clam dip. Not a good way for the series to end the season. Another positively dumb episode. Funny how Dr. Bombay always seems to be close at hand when these bombs drop.
The episodes are presented on four single-sided discs and housed in two slim clear-plastic keep cases with a cardboard slipcase.
Video: The color seasons have been much sharper than the black and whites, and this season seems even more grain-free than the others. The colors are bright and sassy, with Endora's outfits and flaming hair as garish as ever--no fading whatsoever. The presentation is 1.33:1.
Audio: The audio once again comes in English, Spanish, or Portuguese Dolby Digital Mono with English closed captions and Spanish or Portuguese subtitles. Though it has that Mono flatness, the sound at least sounds natural. No complaints here.
Extras: There are no extras.
Bottom Line:
Count me among those who think "Bewitched" went downhill after York left the show, but in fairness, I don't think it had as much to do with the new Darrin as it did the writers finally running out of ideas. Season Six has some entertaining shows, but a lot of dumb ones too. Children and those who grew up liking "Bewitched" in syndication will still warm to this season, but the rest should probably take a pass.
