...a terrible film from start to finish.
Manning the director´s chair is Russell Mulcahy who previously helmed "Highlander" and "Resident Evil: Extinction." All the action sequences and car chases in this film are shot in the most pedestrian manner. There´s no sense of urgency or dynamism at all in the direction. The only thing about "Crash and Burn" that piqued my interest was the involvement of Michael Madsen, a usually dependable character actor. I loved his turns in "Reservoir Dogs" and "Kill Bill," but the poor guy has no cool Tarantino-written lines to spout. He´s not in the least bit menacing.
VIDEO:
The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The transfer is clean and lacks any noticeable specks, scratches, or grain. The picture does feel flat and the colors don´t pop out at all.
AUDIO:
The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0. There may be a lot of action scenes, roaring cars and guns firing right and left, but nothing that will really exercise your sound system.
EXTRAS:
Nothing at all.
FILM VALUE:
"Crash and Burn" is a completely forgettable action film that lacks anything remotely resembling an original idea. I have seen a ton of bad movies and sometimes I´ll find at least one or two positive qualities in them. There´s not a single redeeming element worth noting in "Crash and Burn." It´s a total loss, best to be avoided at all costs.
