I Bet You: Season 1

DVD/APPROX. 249 MINS./2008/US NR
Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari
...isn’t a television series I’d make sure to catch every week, but one I’d watch if I came across it while channel surfing.

"Surfing" – Phil and Antonio head to Venice Beach where they learn how to surf. Phil might have the edge as Antonio spends more time flirting with his pretty instructor. The gambling pair also panhandle on the boardwalk to see who can get more money.

"Tattoo" – The gamblers get ready for a dune buggy race in the desert. Also, a poker game with family and friends gets out of hand when someone loses a bet and must get Antonio´s name tattooed on his body.

"Roller Derby" – Back to the streets of L.A., as Phil and Antonio play a game of roller derby with some tough girls, collect autographs from random people, and race to find Danny DeVito´s house.

-Disc 2-
"YMCA" – Antonio and Phil bet each other to see who can coach a better game of pee-wee basketball. The only problem is that neither knows how to coach. The loser not only has to pay up, but they must literally jump in a lake.

"Paintball" –Phil and Antonio compete in a game of paintball, bet a young man to streak through Central Park, and convince their director, Thom, to let them shoot him with a paintball gun.

"Knights" – Still in New York City, Antonio and Phil head to Medieval Times to learn how to become knights and walk the streets of the Big Apple with a storefront mannequin.

"Lost Footage, Vol. 1" and "Lost Footage, Vol. 2" – These final two episodes of the season contain deleted scenes from the previous episodes.

VIDEO:
The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The show was shot in high definition digital and looks quite stunning for a reality show. It´s sharp and clean.

AUDIO:
The audio is presented in Dolby Digital Stereo. The series is dialogue intensive with every line coming in clearly. Nothing too outrageous.

EXTRAS:
Only extra included is on the second disc. It´s more deleted footage from the paintball episode. Here, the guys manage to convince one of their associate producers to be a target.

FILM VALUE:
"I Bet You" isn´t exactly gripping, thought-provoking programming. It´s brainless fun for the most part. Laak and Esfandiari are obviously great friends and the fun they have is downright infectious. The show does tend to get repetitive after awhile. A few bets, like trying to get a ride from a complete stranger, are repeated with slight variations. "I Bet You" isn´t a television series I´d make sure to catch every week, but one I´d watch if I came across it while channel surfing.
